Crewe//Makes is a new programme of creative activity that celebrates Crewe’s industrial making history and contributes to the town’s present and future as home to a creative making economy.  The project’s mission is to develop opportunities for people in Crewe to unite, create and identify with each other’s making heritage.

Crewe//Makes will use Crewe’s existing town centre infrastructure, including empty shops and outdoor spaces to present events and activities from autumn 2024. A landmark Crewe//Makes weekend indoor and outdoor festival event will take place in February 2025.

Supported by Cheshire East Council, the local authority’s long-term ambition is to initiate a step change in the cultural landscape of Crewe. In doing so, they sought a provider to deliver these events, each embracing making in its broadest sense. These disciplines include visual arts, creative and new media, craft, manufacturing, rapid prototyping, food and history.

The programme of events, including learning and skills development opportunities, has been designed and will be delivered by CreweCreates CIC, a Community Interest Company established in the town with community involvement as its foundation.

Bringing significant experience of delivering events nationally and internationally as artists, creative community-builders and mentors to aspirational, creative individuals and groups, CreweCreates has been founded by Crewe-based arts professionals, Jamie Chalmers and Novae Baghurst. In bringing Crewe//Makes to life, CreweCreates will be supported by a team of volunteers. Read more about them in the Team section.
