About CreweCreates CIC

CreweCreates CIC is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company based in Crewe, Cheshire. Founded in 2023, our mission is to spark creativity, support artists and makers, and grow the town’s cultural and creative economy. We believe everyone deserves access to arts and making – and we’re building opportunities to make that happen, right here in Crewe.

Founded by Jamie Chalmers and Novae Baghurst, our leadership team brings decades of experience in artistic practice, creative mentoring, and community development. We’re proud to be part of a new wave of creative change in Crewe.

What We Do

CreweCreates delivers hands-on creative programmes and public events that bring art, craft, and making directly to our community. Our work champions Crewe’s creative heritage while looking ahead to the future of innovation and digital making.

Our flagship activities include:

• Crewe//Makes – A rolling programme of creative workshops, exhibitions, performances and pop-ups. Designed for families, hobbyists, artists and makers of all backgrounds.

• Art Space on Victoria Street – A high-street creative hub where we host exhibitions, drop-in workshops, artist residencies and more. It’s a welcoming space for everyone in the community.

• Community Events – From Diwali celebrations to Wellbeing Wednesdays, we run inclusive, free-to-access events that invite people of all ages to engage with creativity.

• SIGNALBOX – A performance space in the centre of Crewe, made of shipping containers and a big screen. 

Collaboration and Support

We’re proud to work with partners including Crewe Town Council, Cheshire East Council, South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce, and local education providers like the Crewe Engineering & Design UTC and Cheshire College South & West. We’ve received funding and support from Arts Council England, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and local government.

CreweCreates is more than just events and exhibitions – we’re building a lasting creative infrastructure for the town. By making the arts accessible, supporting local talent, and providing space to experiment, we’re helping to shape a thriving creative future for Crewe.
